Rollers are mainly divided into three categories based on their materials: cast iron rollers, cast steel rollers, and forged steel rollers. The carbon content of the cast iron rolling mill is 2 About 50% to 3.5%, it can be divided into four categories based on the main material: chilled cast iron rollers, infinitely chilled cast iron rollers, high chromium cast iron rollers, and ductile iron rollers. The common structures in cast iron rollers can be divided into three categories: matrix, cementite, and graphite. The matrix structure mainly includes austenite, ferrite, pearlite, bainite, and martensite. Graphite in cast iron generally has two forms: flake and spherical.

Cast steel rollers can be divided into two categories: steel rollers (with a carbon content of 0 4%~114%) and semi steel rollers (with a carbon content of 1 4%~2.40/0), the carbon content of the steel rolling mill is low, so the hardness is low. Its structure is generally composed of ferrite and pearlite. As the carbon content increases, the amount of ferrite decreases and the amount of pearlite increases. To improve hardness, alloying elements such as chromium, nickel, manganese, molybdenum, and vanadium can be added, or special heat treatment can be performed. Due to its high tensile strength and toughness, steel rolling rolls are suitable for open rolling mills or roughing mills with high rolling temperatures and large rolling loads, and can also be used as support rolls. If subjected to special heat treatment to obtain high hardness above HS90, it can also be used as a cold rolling work roll.
The carbon content of semi steel rolling mill is between that of cast steel rolling mill and cast iron rolling mill, and its hardness is higher than that of general cast steel rolling mill and lower than that of cast iron rolling mill. The main characteristic of semi steel rollers is that the internal hardness drop is very small, making them particularly suitable for manufacturing deep hole rollers. If the silicon content is increased in the material of the semi steel rolling mill, it can be treated with graphitization to have high resistance to thermal cracking and strength and toughness. It can be used as the opening rolling mill rolling mill rolling mill, large section steel rough rolling mill rolling mill rolling mill rolling mill, opening continuous rolling mill rolling mill rolling mill rolling mill, and hot-rolled strip continuous rolling mill vertical rolling mill, and can achieve good rolling effect.
Forged steel rolling rolls undergo smelting, forging, and heat treatment to endow the working layer of the roll body with high hardness, high wear resistance, and excellent accident resistance, while ensuring that the roll neck and core of the roll body have certain strength and high toughness. The unique performance of forged steel rolling rolls gives them an irreplaceable advantage in cold rolling and non-ferrous rolling compared to cast rolling rolls.
